Right now people in the western states of the U.S.A. are having to deal with wild horse overpopulation. The best solution so far is to dart the female horses with birth control. Back in 1971, wild horses were endangered and several laws were made to protect them. Now there are 72,614 living in 10 western states, and their numbers are growing 15 to 20% each year. The Iron County Commissioner, Dave Miller, said, “Our objective is to make sure those who are involved in this know that we have serious problems that need to be addressed. Things have to be dealt with!” Campaign spokeswoman Deniz Bolbol said, “The use of birth control, in the form of the PZP vaccine, was recommended by the National Academy of Sciences and is in line with public opinion and taxpayer interests.” In other words Deniz supports the PZP vaccines. Because of this problem, the western states need to use birth control, and quickly, so that we can get the horse population under control.

NASA wanted the spacecraft Cassini to gather information about Saturn for as long as possible. Cassini's original mission was to last 4 years but it lasted 13 years before Cassini dove into Saturn recently on September 15, 2017.
In 2010, the spacecraft discovered a storm. The shape of the storm was a hexagon. It is located on the northern hemisphere. There around the storm was a water vapor. Cassini sent a probe named Huygens down to one of Saturn's moons named Titan. Huygens has been studying Titan ever since. Cassini also has found another moon named Enceladus. Enceladus is covered in ice and from what Huygens sent us Titan's seas and rivers but also even rains. But it does not rain water. Instead it rains a chemical called methane. Enceladus is covered with a layer of ice underneath it. Cassini found a ocean of liquid. It has geysers of water shooting out of it. Cassini went through one of them and found the water very salty and with some of the elements needed to support life. Cassini has discovered possible life on the moon, Enceladus. We don't want Earth life growing and surviving there. Germs can probably get on the spacecraft so we have to protect that moon. To prevent crashing into Saturn's moons and possibly spreading germs, the exploration must end soon. Previously NASA has found a solution. It is to burn Cassini as it plunges towards the heart of Saturn. Thank you Cassini and goodbye! - 4th Grade Droids table (Dan, Abby, Lucy)
On September 15th Cassini had it's final mission. It was expected to survive for only four years. It ended up lasting 13 years!
In 2010, Cassini was orbiting and found that there was a massive storm that was formed to the shape of a hexagon. Saturn's Northern hemisphere has surfaced water vapor. We have found that Titan is Saturn's largest moon. Titan has been found to have rivers, seas, and rain. The seas include a chemical that is called methane. Cassini also discovered on Enceladus that it has an extremely salty water underneath the salty ice on the surface of Enceladus. The icy moon (that may contain life) has geysers that shoot out the water, and when it hits the coldness of space, the water freezes in mid-air! When scientists launched Cassini they worried that when she ran out of power Cassini would crash into Titan or Enceladus and then later if they found out that they had life (that's a guess) that it was just the Earth germs that could have killed life there. So to prevent that from happening, the scientists decided to have Cassini crash into Saturn to protect the moons that might have life. -Ewoks table (Lien Hoa, Kody, Oscar) |
